VEGETABLES
Brox Farm sweet corn has
an excellent reputation throughout the area and we aim to maintain that integrity.
We dedicate a lot of time to making sure it is perfect. Truly, the success of
our tasty sweet corn begins years before planting the seed. The soil is our
most prized asset. Humankind knows only a fraction of the secrets of the soil.
We treasure our soils.
We baby them, we monitor them, feed them and put them to sleep at the end of
every growing season. The improvements and investments we make in our soils
every year has, over the years, ensured a future of growth---as long as we maintain
this sense of stewardship.
And our soils produce much
more than the corn Brox Farm is so well known for. We grow tons of pumpkins,
luscious tomatoes, cucumbers, both pickling and slicing, beans, peppers, eggplants,
summer squash, zucchini, various winter squashes, broccoli, cabbage, greens,
cauliflower, kale, brussel sprouts, and beets.
Our tomatoes include early
and late varieties, yellow pear, grape, cherry, plum and heirloom varieties.
We sow the seeds for our early greenhouse tomatoes in February and are usually
picking tomatoes by the end of June. This gives us a month or more of wonderfully
flavored fresh tomatoes until our tomatoes in the field begin ripening at the
end of July. Tomato salads and tomato sandwiches become a mainstay of the late
summer menu. We protect our fields from late frosts, and some years are lucky
enough to be harvesting tomatoes until the end of October.
